Cyte

MacOS app searches digital history by text in any app.

About

Cyte is a self-hosted, intelligent digital memory retrieval app designed for productivity. It allows users to search their entire digital history, from desktop apps to browser usage, by text contained within any application.

Cyte is exclusive to MacOS and requires a minimum of Apple M1 or Intel Core i7. The app is highly configurable and can exclude specific apps or websites that users do not want to record.

Cyte is also open-source and MIT licensed, allowing users to contribute to the project or customize it to their specific needs. Cyte Timeline lets users scroll through their digital history and filter by application or website, while the “Resume” button seamlessly returns users to their active document or website.

Users can delete any recordings they don’t want saved, share their memories with 1-click timelapse generation, and even chat with Cyte to summarize work, locate content without precise keywords, and connect information from various sources, identifying hidden patterns and relationships.

Cyte stores personal data locally within a folder of the user’s choosing, by default in their Application Support directory. Cyte only fully supports English at present, although it may still be of limited usefulness with other languages.

If users encounter any issues, they can refer to the app’s documentation or frequently asked questions page. Cyte is available to users for a pay-what-you-want price, with the option to contribute to its development.
